Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

I'm new to wood burning and am not sure what I need. Can you help?

Of course! Just give us a call on 01476 879269 and tell us where you’re intending to burn the wood so that we can advise on the most suitable wood for your purpose. We’ve plenty of experience about what works best for each different appliance.

I've just placed an order - when will I get my delivery?

We aim to deliver within one week of our order, at busy times of the year this may be slightly longer.  Our commitment to customer service means that we’ll keep you updated by text messages and our friendly driver will unload and stack your wood.

How much does it cost to get my logs or coal delivered?

Delivery is free to parts of Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire and Rutland (full details can be found here). If you live outside these areas, please give us a call on 01476 879269 for an accurate quote.

How do I store my wood?

If you’re lucky enough to have a shed or outhouse, this is probably the best option as your logs will stay dry and protected from the elements.

If you’re storing logs outside, it’s best to cover them with a tarpaulin as there’s always a danger of rain, in this country! It’s also a good idea to bring a few into the house before you intend to use them.

There’s an art to stacking logs … we recommend aiming for around a metre high and make sure you allow for plenty of circulation, leaving gaps between the logs. Each layer needs to be facing in the opposite direction. It’s a bit like wooden Jenga!

What is the difference between seasoned logs compared to kiln dried wood?

Seasoned logs are air-dried over time, whereas kiln-dried logs are dried in a kiln to a constant low moisture level. Both can be used on your fireplace or stove.

With the unpredictable UK weather and maintaining stock levels, providing kiln dried means we can always make sure our logs are under 20% moisture which makes them easier to ignite, creating a hotter and more efficient burn.

Regulations are getting stricter and the government is focusing on strengthening the CleanAir Act with already some local areas having smoke free zones.

We are dedicated to ensuring that we can continue to keep home fires burning.

If you would like any more information about how we season our wood, please feel free to call us on 01476 879269.
